The Wigwam Motel

“A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.” – John Steinbeck

We spent the night before last at the Wigwam Motel on Rt 66 in Holbrook Arizonia. It turned out in was built in the 50's by a guy who ran a chain of the Teepee style motels after seeing on in Kentucky somewhere. It fell into disrepair after Rt 66 was bypassed by the new Interstate but was revived and restored by his family afater his death in the 80's. It was neat and clean and suprisingly roomy as we had to reorganize all out gear to get ready to backpack into the Painted Desert Wilderness the following night. The place has vintage old cars scattered around the property and give it a real old Rt 66 feeling!
